I use drywall anchors. The extractor will pull them out.

 

But they will not feed and function from a magazine…..

 

None of the snap caps for .22LR are designed for dry-fire, the aluminum will bend the rim, the plastic ones will break.
The drywall anchors hold up well and will feed from a magazine, as long as it's the only round in the magazine.

 

Drywall anchors offer almost no resistance to the firing pin-making them useless. The firing pin just penetrates them.

 

I used the fired 22LR cases for dry firing, but some of the modern 22LR handguns and rifles can be safely dry fired without damaging the firing pin or barrels breach end. If it’s a modern 22LR firearm, read what the owner’s manual suggests. I learned with my Walther P22 which can be dry fired, I’ll use fire cartridge case and the same spot on the rim can be hit three times before I have to pull the case and rotate it for the firing pin to hit a new spot.

 

I use fired brass on my revolvers and semi's, once the rim is used up just throw them away and get more. I used to use Carlson's Wool Snap Caps, they worked well but a tad expensive, I have found that depending on extractors, plastic won't hold to well after a while.

 

I use the #6 dry wall anchors in my .22s. They last a long time and are cheap. I can dry fire my revolver about 100 times before I replace them. In my auto's, I can cycle the action and they will feed from the magazines.

 

I don't dry fire!

Can all of your be de-cocked? I think most of us would rather store them that way - and you should always cycle them after re-assembly just to be sure. Snap caps and drywall anchors have their place as much as I hate dry firing.
